The Inner Planets

The inner planets are those on the inside of the asteroid belt--Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These planets are concerned mainly with the way we relate to the outside world. Mercury is communication, Venus is love and harmony, Earth is our relationship to ourself, Mars is vitality, drive, and aggression. These planets are those which affect our day to day life, but they also affect our attitudes and personality.

About Mercury

Mercury, the innermost and fastest-moving planet, is 4,878 kilometers in diameter, a little larger than our Moon. Mercury reflects only 6% of the sunlight that strikes it. In comparison, the Earth reflects me than 30% of the light that strikes it, most of it from clouds.

Mercury is difficult to see from the Earth because of it is so close to the Sun. We first saw this planet close-up in 1974 when the Mariner 10 passed within 500 miles of it. It looks very much like our Moon with densely packed craters studding the surface and wide expanses of smooth terrains.
