Decanates

Like many things in life, astrology signs are divided into sub-personalities. Each sign is divided into three parts of 10 Deg. each. These parts are called Decanates.

The 1st decanate of a sign (0-9 degrees fo the sign) represents the physical/material influence. It carries the influence of the sign itself. For example degrees 0-09 of Scorpio will be entirely Scorpio influence without any other coloration.

The 2nd decanate of a sign (10-19 degrees) is the mental/intellectual influence. It carries an additional influence of the nature of the next sign of the same element. So 10 Deg. Scorpio will be Scorpio with an added influence of Pisces.

The 3rd is the spiritual influence. The 3rd decanate (degrees 20-30) will take on the native sign plus an additional influence of the sign of the same element that comes after the 2nd decanate. So 25 degrees Scorpio would be Scorpio with an added influence of Cancer.

The decanates are most influential with the Sun, Moon, and ruling planet (ruler of the rising sign). The decanate of the Sun sign represents the purpose of the individual or, how we are likely to unconsciously fulfill our Sun sign.
