Chants and Mantras—Ancient Sources of Empowerment
In ancient civilizations such as the Incas, Mayans, Native Americans, Celts, Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, sound played an important part in religious life and healing. One theory says that the ancient Lemurians had a language that consisted solely of sounds of nature.
The ancients seemed to understand more, the nature of sound and how it affects us spiritually and physically. Australian aborigines, for example use the didgeridoo to help loosen the physical and astral bond to allow astral travel. Native Americans use rattles, flutes, and drums in sacred ceremonies and in healing. The Hindus still use mantra and chants for everything from health and prosperity to the removal of karma.
Power of Names
The ancient people also put great stock in the power of names The names of individuals were sometimes kept secret so an enemy could not gain spiritual power over the person. In the sacred science of chants and mantras, the names of angels, avatars, and saints have names that evoke spiritual power and energy.
Mantras
Mantras were originally fashioned after the sounds of the universe and its stars and planets. These are the most ancient of mantras. Some have survived today: Om, Hu, Hay-Ya, Su, are some. Whole languages were derived for their magical power—Rakashi Bashi (Atlantian), Sanskrit, Hebrew, Ayrian, and Gaelic are some examples.
Using mantras (words that empower or evoke body/mind/spirit) can be very powerful and create great and drastic change in your life and in the world. OM is considered the “mother of all mantras” and is used to empower whatever mantra or affirmation it proceeds. But OM must be pronounced correctly for this power to be invoked.
OM
OM is really AUM, three separate Sanskrit works. A (as in “say ah” = Waking State and Earth; U (as in boot) = Dream State, Inner World, and Air; M (as in mmm)= Deep sleep, Undifferentiated Unity, and Void. Each syllable word should be sounded in equal length. When sounding AUM, begin the A with focus on the root chakra and move up the chakras to the solar plexus as you sound U, then to the throat as you sound M, continuing up through the crown chakra.
You will feel the power of the AUM resonating throughout your entire being, bringing a profound sense of peace and tranquility. Use it alone in a series of seven repetitions (or 108 for full effect), or use it before any other mantra or affirmation to unlock its full potential. If you are Reiki or Re Hu Tek™ attuned, use the AUM with it for an even more dynamic and powerful effect. And, as always, be careful of what you ask for, you may get it.
